Summary: A successful young woman decides to propose to her boyfriend of four years because according to Irish tradition, females can propose to males on leap day which is the 29th of February.

Review: An old Irish tradition dictates that the female party of a relationship can propose to the alpha male (not so if he gets cold feet everytime he tries to propose) on the leap day of a leap year which is the 29th of February.

Leap Year is based on this Irish tradition as it tells the tale of a young successful woman who makes a living by furnishing the apartments before real estate agents begin selling the unit to clients. Basically, this young woman named Anna Brady played by Amy Adams uses the principle of selling a slice of the client’s dream house to them by creating the ambience and surroundings suited to their desire.

Since she’s all so successful then obviously she is to a certain extent a control freak. Control freaks basically want everything to go according to their plans and when it doesn’t; everything seems to fall apart for them. So one day, Anna felt that on that night, her boyfriend of four years, Jeremy played by Adam Scott, would finally propose to her. Much to her disappointment he doesn’t.

She goes home mourning over it and suddenly her father (John Lithgow) who was absent for such long epochs (exaggeration) turned up to comfort her. When he was comforting her, he told her about the Irish tradition. Consequently, Anna felt that she was in control again as she could instead propose to her boyfriend on leap day. So, she follows him to Ireland where he has to attend a medical conference.

But oh WOE, mishaps prevent Anna from proposing to him and all of a sudden; she meets another man whom she feels she has feelings for. So which one does she choose?

Plots aside, let’s talk about the main character Amy Adams. There’s something enchanting about her since her most famous movie Enchanted (pardon the pun) that makes us want to watch her act in any movies. Leap Year has a very simple plot; so simple that it’s basically our daily life minus the exaggerated mishaps. However it’s the chemistry between Amy Adams and Adam Scott that blends so well that it convinces the audience that they are our next-door-kind-of-neighbor-couple.
