The latter will be first, says an old adage, and the launch of this weekend’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”, the last superheroes movie of this summer who have appeared on the big screen, demonstrates, according to results taken on BoxOfficeMojo.

Joe Johnston‘s film starring Chris Evans has gathered 65.8 million U.S. dollars from the spectators, outpacing revenue from other superhero films obtained by the onset of summer: Thor (65.7 million), Green Lantern (53.2 million) and X-Men: First Class (55.1 million).

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 is on second place now, its revenues decreased sharply by about 70 percent from last week-end and reaching 48.1 million dollars.

Placed third among the comedy Friends with Benefits with Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake. Although it received only $18 million at the launch in the U.S., the film is still likely to exceed worldwide modest budget of 35 million dollars.

On the fourth and fifth places you can see Transformers: Dark of the Moon (12 million) and the comedy signed by Seth Gordon, Horrible Bosses (11.7 million). Then Zookeeper (8.7 million), followed by Cars 2 (5.7 million), Winnie the Pooh (5.1 million) and Bad Teacher (2.6 million).

In last place is still Midnight in Paris (after ten weeks in the top), with revenue slightly higher than those of the past week-end: 1.9 million. It is rare for any film, given that it decreased the number of projections, especially for one signed by Woody Allen.

After several weeks of hearings and tests with the screen with various actors, Marvel Entertainment made its choice: it is the actor Chris Evans (Push, the Fantastic Four franchise) who will incarnate Captain America.

Evans accepted the quote by the studio last week. Although the details are not completely finalized, it is known that the agreement includes the participation of the actor in at least three feature films of which the first, First Avenger: Captain America, is waited on July 22nd, 2011 on the North-American screens. Paramount will distribute the feature film.

He will take back then the position in The Avengers at the sides of Thor, Iron ManĀ  and The Incredible Hulk. This film is awaited on the screens on May 4th, 2012.

Joe Johnston (The Wolfman, Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III) will carry out First Avenger: Captain America according to a scenario of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

As you may remember from your childhood, Captain America became a symbol freedom in the middle of the 20th century with his unbreakable shield and its outfit which evokes the American flag. First Avenger: Captain America will recall the origins of superheroes.

The actor Hugo Weaving (the The Matrix and The Lord of the Rings franchises) will incarnate Red Skull, the villain in First Avenger: Captain America.

Kevin Feige will produce the feature film for Marvel whereas Stephen Broussard will co-produce it. Stratton Leopold, David Maisel, Stan Lee and Louis D’ Esposito will act as associate producers.
