“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”, the new “boss” at the box office

11 July, 2011

The robots from “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” were more beloved than the animals in “The Zookeeper” and more imposing than the heads of “Horrible Bosses”, directed by Michael Bay and maintaining this weekend in first place in the American box office.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, “Dark of the Moon” won this time by 47 million dollars, becoming the highest grossing film this year, and exceeded half a billion in just nine days after its launch. Perhaps because of the top distribution, but also the favorable chronicles of the critics, Horrible Bosses spectators gathered 28.1 U.S. million dollars. The movie directed by Seth Gordon is another comedy this year advised against minors, in which three friends (Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Suedikis) are ploting the killing of their bossesg (Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell) as they conclude that they make life bitter and stand in the way of their happiness.

Despite poor reviews, “Zookeeper” ranks in the top three with earnings of 21 million. Animals come alive in this film and are determined to assure their carer (Kevin James) and love life, not just professional. In the film also appear Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Seven Pounds), Ken Jeong and Donnie Wahlberg.

On 4th is Cars 2 (15.2 million), followed by Bad Teacher (9 million), Larry Crowne (6.2 million) and Super 8 (4.8 million). The last three places of the ranking are occupied by Monte Carlo (8, earning 3.8 million), Green Lanten (3.1 million) and Mr. Popper’s Penguins (2.8 million).

Another Dead Heat at the Top of the North-American Box Office?

21 April, 2010

moviePoster

The scenario is repeated only one week after the almost-dead heat between the two heads of the North-American Box Office. This time, the duel is played between superhero movie Kick-Ass of Lionsgate and the cartoon film of DreamWorks Animation, How to Train Your Dragon.

According to the estimates, Kick-Ass, released this week, should bring back 19.75 million American dollars. A little less than what the producers expected, but it would be however about a good introduction.

Announced first this week, How to Train Your Dragon should generate 20 million dollars. The cartoon film was released four weeks ago.

Again, it will be necessary to be careful in front of the numbers advanced by the production companies. On the last week, the receipts recorded at the end of the weekend proved that the estimates of the producers were not always exact. Indeed, Date Night had finally finished second – and not first – behind Clash of the Titans.

This situation, where films are so close in the Box Office that we cannot be sure estimates, is exceptional. Box Office analysts say that they have seen that twice of two weeks.

New in the rooms and in the top 10, the American remake of the British comedy of the same name, Death at a Funeral, took the fourth place with an income of 17,3 million dollars.

Letters to God and Diary of a Wimpy Kid do not form part of the ten leaders of the classification anymore.
